- Segment Anything Model (SAM), Meta AI's promptable image segmentation model released April 5, 2023 under Apache 2.0: from clicks, boxes or other prompts it masks any object in any image, even kinds it never saw in training. A one-time image embedding feeds a lightweight prompt encoder and mask decoder, so each mask takes about 50 milliseconds in a web browser. Meta trained it with SA-1B, over 1.1 billion masks on about 11 million images, 400 times more than any earlier dataset.
