- Meta FAIR's Chameleon (May 2024 paper), early-fusion, token-based models that understand and generate interleaved images and text in any order with one architecture; Meta reports state-of-the-art image captioning, better text-only results than Llama 2, parity with Mixtral 8x7B and Gemini Pro, and human ratings matching or beating Gemini Pro and GPT-4V on long mixed-modal output. In June 2024 Meta released safety-tuned 7B and 34B models under a research-only license, with text-only output.
