- Chinchilla (March 2022), DeepMind's 70-billion-parameter language model, built to test its finding from training over 400 models that model size and training data should grow in equal proportion and that large models of the day were undertrained. Trained with the same compute as the 280B Gopher but a quarter of its size and four times the data, Chinchilla outperformed Gopher, GPT-3, Jurassic-1 and Megatron-Turing NLG on most tasks, reached 67.5% on MMLU and cost less to fine-tune and run.
