- Stable Diffusion, the latent diffusion text-to-image model released publicly on August 22, 2022. Its V1 release was led by Robin Rombach (Stability AI) and Patrick Esser (Runway) of LMU Munich's CompVis group, building on their Latent Diffusion Models paper, which runs diffusion in a pretrained autoencoder's latent space with text cross-attention to cut compute. The v1.4 weights shipped under CreativeML OpenRAIL-M, allowing commercial use, and needed about 6.9 GB of VRAM.
