- OpenAI's text-embedding-ada-002 (December 15, 2022), which replaced five separate models for text search, text similarity and code search and outperformed OpenAI's previous most capable embedding model, Davinci, at most tasks at a 99.8% lower price; it raised context length fourfold to 8,192 tokens and produced 1,536-dimension embeddings, one-eighth the size of davinci-001's. OpenAI recommended text-embedding-3-small from January 2024 but did not deprecate it; it costs $0.10 per million tokens.
